Amsterdam, Oosterleek and Nuenen
Back in October, we played a nice gig in Mulligans Irish Bar in Amsterdam. Always a pleasure to play there and for those of you who missed out: don’t worry, we’ll be back in January!
Then in November, we headed north for Folk Club Oosterleek’s 30th Anniversary Festival in Herbergh ’t IJsselmeer. Fair play to them, as running a folk club for 30 years is quite an achievement. Four out of five of our band members were yet to be born 30 years ago. And the oldest Paddy was definitely not capable of holding a musical instrument back then! Organisers Ron Newson and Klaas Vis gave us a very warm welcome and it was great to play with our friends from Coracle and Harmony Glen, who performed on the same bill.
Last weekend we were in Nuenen, another place of importance to folk musicians in the Netherlands. The Iers Sessie Festival Nuenen was organised for the 4th time and it seems to get better every year. Musicians from all over the country and beyond invaded the village of Nuenen and played Irish music at different bars. We ended up in a smashing session led by some amazing musicians from Germany.
At night, we played a concert at Het Klooster in Nuenen. Inspired as we were by all the musicians present, we added some new tunes to the setlist, including a lovely waltz from Estonia. We’re planning on playing this tune again at the Folkclub in Katwijk on the 29th of November, so we hope to see you all there!
